The M - Winch is gear- less and self locking at any point, eliminating the need for a separate break. This direct drive winch provides for rapid raising and lowering of the flag with little effort. This improved design does not require any welding, thus avoiding discoloration when an anodized finish is required. No monthly lubrication is needed and this winch system is easily adaptable to existing on-site flagpoles. The winch is inserted into the pole and secured with stainless steel bolts on the back side of the pole. Standard colors are satin, dark bronze #313, white and black. If a custom color is desired, please call for pricing.
Oiling and Cleaning
The Stainless Steel Winch can be oiled and cleaned if smoother functioning is needed. The winch can be cleaned using 5W machine oil. Using extra 5W oil will flush and wash out any dirt or debris.
Lubricants to Avoid
We strongly recommend that you avoid the use of any designer lubricants such as WD40 or lubricants containing graphite or molybdenum disulfide. Some designer lubricants contain thinning agents that can dry out over time. Once the thinning agent dries out it can create a residue buildup (gummy residue) in the braking mechanism which can cause the winch to malfunction in several different ways.
Extra Strength Cleaning
Should your winch appear to lose its breaking power as result of residue buildup, you may need to give it an extra strength cleaning. To do this, soak the brake side of the winch in kerosene for 24 hours. This will dissolve the buildup and prepare it for oiling. Then follow the “Oil and Cleaning" instructions above.
